As more and more of peoples' assets move online to social networking sites, their email account, Twitter, etc., less and less is liable to get left behind for future generations. This seems somewhat opposed to what one would expect and hope to happen as information becomes digital and, theoretically, more permanent. Further, after one's death, a digital footprint is left on the Internet. This footprint takes the form of email addresses that no longer work, online profiles that are left with no maintenance, information that contains valuable information, but cannot be accessed, and the list goes on.
